According to the Well Being Trust, a national foundation created to "transform the health of the nation and improve well-being for everyone," many Americans could lose their lives to suicide, alcohol, and drug abuse in the context of the COVID-19 crisis. In a recent report based on best- and worst-case scenarios relative to economic recovery, unemployment, and geography, predictions for "deaths of despair" could be in the hundreds of thousands if we, as a nation, fail to take meaningful and comprehensive action.
